Okay, the new show is up so you can get your first (or 51st ;^) listen to a couple of tracks from Culture of Ascent today at 2:00 Central Daylight Time (US). Or, download/stream from the show page, listed up in my first post on this subject. The playlist is also on the show page, so Fred can get his...

The other night I put the disc in the car stereo while my wife and I went for takeout Chinese. We didn't even get all the way through the first three tracks, but when we got home, she said:

"Stephen, this is a beautiful CD."

From her, high praise indeed.

Barry Couter's 10/19 Column

Before Fred Schendel was interviewed about the anniversary of Sgt. Pepper's earlier this year, I had never seen a reference to the boys or to Glass Hammer in their hometown Chattanooga daily newspaper, except perhaps the usual 3-5 lines under Live Music for the Tivoli Concert. Well! The release of C...

Belay that! Today's show will be a repeat of last week's show. Had an emergency visit to the endodontist today, even though I can't even say "endodontist". Is there such a thing as an ectodontist??? Anyway, it put a little cramp in my schedule. The new show, with the GH tracks, will be posted this w...

COA on Retune The Sky

Shameless plug: I will be playing two tracks from the new GH release Culture of Ascent tomorrow (Mon. October 15th) on my little Internet radio show, Retune The Sky, at 2pm CDT. Two weeks later I will be playing a lot more of this fascinating album. In addition there will be new Jordon Rudess, Circa...

That's good to know, I could have sworn I heard a solo viola in there somewhere. So this morning I was listening to Sun Song again, and heard the little opening flourish to the string solo, and thought, that's the violin, just playing on the lower strings mostly. But I'm the guy that thought the due...

Oops, forgot this: For those who need their new release fix sooner than they can get the CD, I'll be playing two tracks Monday (10/15) on my show Retune The Sky . These tracks fit seamlessly into the existing playlist; "Court of Alkinoos" was already there. Two weeks later I'll play more! With a sur...

First Impressions

I'm hoping everyone one will post their first impressions here as they get the new release. Here are mine, in my usual long-winded, wordy style. I've had COA barely 24 hours, but I'm already getting the lay of land. The topology, if you will! :P First impressions are dangerous in progressive music, ...

Totally out of the spirit of the more recent posts, but I'm never above a shameless plug: This guy is giving a presentation and workshop at Sewanee this Sunday and Monday evening (Oct. 14 and 15). Sewanee is about an hour from Chattanooga for those southern Tennesseans out there. Dr. Puckette develo...

Nice. I understand the band recently went through a major change of personnel. Which of the albums would you recommend to a newcomer as a first purchase?

The Watch

Hey folks, Been listening to some tunes by a band called The Watch , out of Italy. This is a great band with a retro sound, channeling Gabriel-era Genesis rather strongly while making it sound fresh. Why mention this band here? The latest release, "Primitive", includes a tune called Berlin 1936 whic...
