ANOTHER Day At The Races!!

Post by FredProgGH » Sun Sep 30, 2007 2:57 pm

This time it was me and Eric Parker at the Chattanooga Komen Race For The Cure. This is a big one- about 500 runners and tons of walkers. It was another 5k but this one was in the afternoon heat- about 80 degrees, not the worst but not as nice as doing in in the morning would have been. And the hills are mostly at the end of the race. We were hoping for times of 30 minutes or better. Eric left me in the dust; I think he was around 27 minutes final time. I got to the 2 mile mark at 20 minutes and hit the hills and figured I was screwed... at the top of the last hill with 1/2 mile to go I felt pretty spent but just wanted to at least run to the end and not walk. You get that Dory the Fish thing going in your head- "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..." *lol* People were passing me- I thought my time was going to be pathetic but I actually came in at 31:40, and allowing for the time it took to cross the starting line (we were in the back) I may have an official time under 31 minutes. So who knew- I was doing fine! Didn't beat 30 minutes but I shaved at least 2 minutes off of the last race, and with hills and heat to boot. So I'm a happy camper.

Next stop: Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, a 5 MILE race! Yikes...

Great job!

When I am in Nashville, I will TOTALLY come down to race with you.
I am obsessed with running now, and I have been BEGGING Josh for the Nike+ for my iPod.

We should see how many GH members we can get in one race.
