Slide guitar

Post by Octavian » Fri Feb 15, 2008 12:31 pm

As I listen to Chronometree I'm struck by just how much I like the steel guitar work. The demented sliding in Chronos Deliverer reminds me of Chris Squire's comment about Steve Howe's playing on Going For the One: "We know how he's doing it, we just don't know why."

:)

Any chance of more of the sliding in future? The subtler faded slide noises in Revelation are also quite exquisite.

Hmm, funny- I was just listening to Live at NEARFest, which has some great steel guitar work as well.

All credit where credit is due to Shreddy, but i really miss some of those licks on the steel guitar that felt like you were about to have your head snapped off.

The steel will be back for sure, no worries there. It's just too much fun. We thought we'd give it a rest for contrast but I think it will show up in the next project.

BTW, few people know this but Chronometree was done before I bought an actual lap steel. So that was a regular guitar, on a stand, being played with a crescent wrench. No lie. :D

If it works, keep doing it! I say bin the pedal steel and stick with the wrench. ;)
