Let's see GH do another cover ...

Post by CanarioAB » Sat Jul 10, 2004 7:41 pm

This was discussed in chat, and it's continued on the ProgPositivity yahoo group ... and the suggestion was made that Fred could take ANY tune and make it prog. Some suggestions:

Macarena
Hokey Pokey
Any rap tune ...

Feelings ...

and my personal favorite: Muskrat Love

Hey Fred, can you have those whipped up in time for the show on Wednesday?

Or how about the Beatles "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", but change it to "Schendel's Glass Hammer"

By the way April, the song "Muskrat Love is positively EVIL!

The theme from "The Addams Family"
Anarchy in the UK (or any other punk classic, just for irony)
Achey Breakey Heart (but change the lyrics to "The Second Coming" by W.B.Yeates, they fit)

More seriously:
Norwegian Wood
Winter (by Tori Amos)
Brighten Rock (by Queen, this has a brilliant chorus, but I am not enamoured of the guitar solo)
----
Five wizards came from the West. One sought knowledge, one power, one conversed with the animals and the other two got into blues

hmm... actually, I think I would like to hear Glass Hammer try a go at Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"

You could mess with the time signatures even more, and the Multivox would work well for the vocals...hmm, yes! I think I like it....

I like the idea of Bohemian Rhapsody... :D

I once heard a version of Stairway to heaven with the gilligan's island theme song lyrics. It was very cool! I checked it out, and it works so well because they both have very similar chord progressions (although Gilligan's Island has less weird stuff, still the same roots/harmonic functions though)...
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?

An Atlanta-area prog-rock band called Karma Lingo turns in a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody that kills me. Each bandmember takes lead vocals at some point in the song; I'd consider each of them qualified to be a lead singer in nearly any band I could imagine. When Kansas played at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park on July 4 last year, the Karmas opened for them.

(Well, as in, sang the national anthem just before Kansas went on.)

And the bandleader tells of how, after they came offstage, Robby Steinhardt told him, "boy, it's nice to hear a band that can really sing!"

Check out the pics at http://www.karmalingo.com, and tell me the bandleader isn't a dead ringer for Samwise's current avatar! The resemblance is scary!!
