I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Interesting.....The director of "Pan's Labyrinth",could bring a darker edge.
Art can "make people feel what's true rather than telling them".[Dan Haseltine,Jars of Clay].

Indeed. Though the silliness included in Jackson's movies would be more appropriate in this film.

I really have always been a fan of the atmosphere of Rankin and Bass' version of the Hobbit - kind of dark and creepy and otherwordly (although not so heavy and overwhelming as to make it an adult-only movie). It made an impression on me when I saw it as a little kid, and it kind of stuck with me. I wouldn't mind the movie having a slightly darkish flavor, providing the essence of the Hobbit is there. I mean, it is Tolkien.
Workings of man crying out from the fires set aflame
By his blindness to see that the warmth of his being
Is promised for his seeing, his reaching so clearly

Well if the spiders don't make that sweet screechy electronic Megatron shriek (as seen in Rankin and Bass') when they die, I'm not seeing it.
