Y'know I was thinking about this and I remember seeing Star Wars in 1978 at the tender age of 10 and walking home from the movies I was Han Solo (because my jacket looked a bit like the one he wore :lol:) and it was a great feeling. Nothing like SW had ever been seen before and it was a totally new phenomenon. To that end, the prequels had a lot to live up to for me and had to satisfy two possibly irreconcilable criteria;
  • They had to contain that spark that entranced me as a 10-year old.
They had to contain story and dialogue that gripped me as a 30-something
I don't think the prequels managed either for me. I found the "magic" missing and that's probably inevitable so that's no-ones fault as such, but the dialogue is most definitely the responsibility of someone! I just didn't care about any of the characters in any of the movies and some of the lines were cringeworthy.

If I saw Ep IV today I might feel the same way but as it is, the emotion in RotS (and PM and AotC) was missing for me and spoiled an otherwise enjoyable romp.

I like Obi-Wan's beard though!

Obi Wan does have an enviable beard, but I'm with Ted on Sith and the other prequels. Lucas just can't write dialog to save his life. The scenes between Christensen and Portman are just awful. A good portion of the audience laughed. And if you are going to have Samuel L. Jackson in your movie for goodness sake USE him! That said, the alien landscapes and sfx are first rate.

The beard? No. Kill it, someone, please.... :-p for Liam, and for Alec, it worked well. For Ewan, no. Just, no.

But he needs to have facial fuzz to confer the requisite qravitas to the role of Knight of the Old Republic. It gives him that distinguished air that a Jedi Master needs...

...and his beard looks a bit like mine!

This is from another forum I'm on- it's so incoherent it scrapes brilliance:

IMO the storyline is the weekest of all the parts (i saw each part more then 20 times). Weekest is week word, this storyline is more for Cartoon Network.
R2D2 - Terminator IV
Yoda - Little green friend
Palpatin - Pedafeelic Homosexualist
Clones - Killed all the Jedees
Jedi Council - Stupid selfenjoing punks
Suffering Vader - 8-|
Obi Van - silently watching ruler of the galaxy

Well, allrighty then!! :D

Saw it last night. Felt like leaving during the first 1/4 of the movie. It was awful. Then I sorta got into it. Great action, great efx, awful dialog. Subtitles with the dialog down - that's how you fix this one. Best of the 3, and that isn't saying much. Looked great though.

The thing is, that there wasn't a book that was slaughtered to make the movie, so the Star Wars movies > LotR movies. Obi-Wan might've looked better if he had longer hair like in Episode 2. In that, he had shorter beard, longer hair, but Ep. 3 it was shorter hair (with combover action) and longer beard. Anakin looked better with long hair though. And the droids..... with all they're cartoony little kiddish squeals when they die.... I thought it needed more space battles.
