The evolution of the Kazoo...
This isn't exactly about the recorder... it's about.... the CRUMHORN!!!!! Gryphon's Gryphon, the Juniper Suite - OH YEAH! GO CRUMHORN!!! COOL! It's like a kazoo, only cooler. Kemp's jig has a lot of it too. It's just so nice and medieval... and hilarious!!! Just so... ungraceful and unmajestic sounding, but so compeltley medieval at the same time! It's... well... if you crossed an elephant, a chinese crested, a dragonfly, and my little brothers, this is the instrument you'd get. Wow, these medieval dudes were creative.

.I wish I had a crumorn... But, I did get an electric kazoo for Vhristmas. Thats right, an electric kazoo!
It is so cool, you can plug it into any amp or speakers and thread it through effect boxes and stuff. It uses some piezioelectrtic (sp) pickup and sound just like an amplified kazoo. Some guy sells them on eBay. It has some pretty cool sound samples

I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?

An electric kazoo? That has to be the most hilarious instrument on the planet! I want one! Amplified? They're bad enough as is! That's so cool.

actually, they are more like the chanter on a bagpipe. The double reed doesn't come in direct contact with your mouth, so you can't control it as easily as an oboe or bassoon, etc.

Q: How do you get 3 oboes to play in tune?
A: Shoot 2.
Ha!
However, all joking aside, orchestras tune to the oboes because it has the purest overtone series. Also, a good oboe player is quite an amazing thing. There was this girl in my band who graduated last year, and she kicked ass at the oboe (bet you never thought you'd see the words "oboe" and "kicked ass" in the same sentence!
). And another thing, she could play english horn too! A lot of oboe players thik they can play english horn, but they mostly just suck. She was good though. However, she was a jerk as a person. Whatever, jsut stay out of her way if she's not playing...

Coupla years back, I spent a weekend on a retreat with several other folks, one of whom had an electric harp. Not one of those full-size concert jobs; this one was maybe four feet tall. And it had an output jack, hence the term "electric harp." I indulged a notion to plug it into my Zoom effects box, to hear what you get when you run a harp through a bass-synth effect. And what d'you think it sounded like?Sam Gamgee wrote:An electric kazoo? That has to be the most hilarious instrument on the planet! I want one! Amplified? They're bad enough as is! That's so cool.
...well, uh...
nothing. Shoulda seen it coming--you don't plug a piezo-pickup-equipped instrument directly into an effects box without a preamp, which we didn't have. Busted.
