A Theremin at NEARfest

Cool picture of Anna Holmgren from Anglagard playing a Theremin... actually it's a really bad picture... but its the best one I could find.
This wasn't taken at NF, it was at some concert in Stockholm, but Anglagard did have a Theremin at NF too. The only problem is I didnt know what they were at the time so I didnt take much notice. I will pay much more attention this year, I hope someone uses one.
I've still never actually heard one (that I know of) but I am going to listen to my Anglagard discs again and see if I can pick it out. But Anglagard uses mellotron too, how will I know the difference? From what people say in the forums the two instruments sound somewhat alike.

A mellotron is an older sampling instrument. If you've heard the opening to Starless (king crimson) or any other King Crimson stuff, you know what it sounds like. A theremin sounds more "slidy" and less cheesy sounding. it is the weird noise on Good Vibrations by the beach boys and is used on a bunch of old 50s soundtracks.
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?

Are you asking me or king? I own a Moog Etherwave and I'm doing an independent study in school next year on Theremin Performance. I have definitely played it before. :D

haha, if I had ever played one I guess I would know what it sounds like, wouldn't I? So, no, I have not. I've never even seen one up close, only in pics...I love trons tho, If I played any instruments at all I think it would be neat to play a tron. Even if just doing a few chords for fun.

He just talked about it on the "Other Equipment" Page. Remmeber?
Workings of man crying out from the fires set aflame
By his blindness to see that the warmth of his being
Is promised for his seeing, his reaching so clearly

I'm leaning towards the Tascam, just because people I know have reccomended it. It is $100 more than the zoom though. I may have to empty my change jat a bit...
