The Big Question: Favorite Song
So what is it? You don't have to vote for your absolute favorite of all time, but you could vote for what you are thinking of at the moment. You are free to change your mind later, I know it's an extrememly diffcult choice...

unfair fairness :)
My vote went to Longer only because of the fact that it is the one song on the album where the band goes beyond what I would have expected. Not to say the other tracks are not great, but as I have said elsewhere, they just take this song and make it theirs. I grew up hearing this song, and I will never hear it the same again after the GH treatment!

You forgot the ™. You need to pay me royalties for using that!

I haven't decided on my favorite yet. I love Behind the Great Beyond, but i also love Run Lisette. I'm thinking it will end up being BTGB, but I'll have to wait and see.

It's official: BTGB. The violins, the building climaxes, the epic triumph of the philosopher in interwoven themes of all kinds... It's got it all.
Lisette is awesome, but just on a different scale.

Oh yeah, I guess I never posted what I voted for... Obviously BTGB. It just rocks.
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?

But it leads somewhere....
I think that it's criminal that at the time of this posting, there are no votes for 'Run, Lisette.' That song rocks very much, and there are few things that can top a song about a killer horse. Unfortunately for 'Run Lisette,' though, 'Behind the Great Beyond' is one of those things. The string intro, the awesome lyrics, the pure majesty of the entire song... unbeatable. Hands down, the finest work on the album.
Needless to say, I enjoyed all the songs. But BtGB just blows them all away. If it had been the only song on the whole album, I still would have bought it.

Re: But it leads somewhere....
There is now! The song just leaped out at me when I first listened to the album. Fantastic story, with music to match. The church organ was a very nice touch, it gave the song a majestic feel. The bass line in that song is really catchy, and really set such a nice tone for it. I also really loved the Kansas like section later in the song. All in all one of my favorite Glass Hammer songs period (well along with "Chronos Deliverer", "A Cup Of Trembling, etc etc....Elrabin wrote:I think that it's criminal that at the time of this posting, there are no votes for 'Run, Lisette.'

You're all mad! Quite mad!!
Beyond is long and has string trios and stuff, but Close is a slab of pure prog! Its so well written, with section after section of 11/8 multilayeredharmonic proggy goodness, plus Flo has a very sexy voice.. ahem
But if you weren't going to vote for that, surely you'd pick Farewell. What a strange, organic blossoming of a great idea. Once again in 11/8... today's album is brought to you by the letters G and H and the number 11...
Other great riffs in 11... erm... that bit in Gates of Delirium... erm... erm...

Lisette!
Johnny come lately, but I have to chime in.
I vote for "Run, Lisette", partly because I haven't actually heard the
whole album yet! But mostly because the fugue-like choral section
at the end gives me goosebumps everytime I listen closely.
It sounds to my ears like a three-part fugue between the harmonized
line, the female solo, and the male solo. Heck, there may be more
parts than that once the instruments are factored in.
Must listen again.

Ecce quam bonum et quam iucundum habitare fratres in unum.
Another vote for Run Lisette. I absolutely adore that song, my favorite GH song from any album. My jaw still drops to the ground when I hear the female vocals on that. And a wild story to boot! I think 'Behind the Great Beyond' gets votes just for its lenght alone! Good song though. And 'Longer' is one of the most creative covers I've heard in years.
And now for something completly different...
What the heck are you waiting for? I know its only been out a short time, I mean its tough to save up 15 bucks over the course of 13 months!alien2112 wrote:Um, since I don't have the album yet () I've only heard "So Close, So Far" and "Run Lisette".
