Influence of "In the Presense of" by Yes on BtGB

Post by carltonh » Wed Feb 11, 2004 2:08 pm

Has anyone else noticed a similarity?

Listen to Yes album Magnification on In the Presense of, after 7 minutes into the song or so. The compare "Behind the Great Beyond" after 3 minutes into it.

I imagine GH were influenced by that, and it is a great Yes song too. Not that it is exactly the same, not plagarism, but an apparent tribute to the Old Masters' recent stuff.

Hey, welcome to the forum! :)

Unfortuneately, I don't have that album. I heard the newer Yes albums weren't that great, but I don't know much about it...

I notice a little bit of recent Yes on Shadowlands too. Specifically Lightning Strikes from The Ladder. I also notice the influence of post-Gabriel Genesis.

I'll have to listen again to see if I hear the "Lightning Strikes" style.

The recent Yes albums are good, but some songs are just classics to me like Homeworld, Mind Drive, and In the Presence of. But I like all Yes albums to some degree. Recent ones are not as good as recent GH albums though.

I hope Wakeman does record new music with them because the Keys to Ascension studio tracks were especially good.

I notice it the most on 'Longer'.
