I have heard another version of this, it's a wonderful song. and i must say that you've managed to turn it into prog w/o losing the feeling of the original song...masterful

most definately agree...

i mean, you guys TOTALLY throw listeners with the piano intro (which I just so happen to now be able to play on the piano, to the end of the song)
and when the full song kick in its great.

Has Dan Folgelberg mentioned anyhtign aobut it, or heard it Steve/Fred?

He hasn't said anything to us. I'm not sure if he's heard it or not. Believe it or not, Fred worked that arrangement out without listening to the song. We haven't heard the actual song in 20 years! But that's Fred!

I had William (my co-worker who accompanied me to the Chattanooga show last September) sit down and listen to "Longer" a few months back...but I didn't tell him what he was listening to. I just said "GH did a cover of a song that was a big hit on radio back in '79; see if you can identify it." He got it once the vocal line started...but his first guess, before he heard the first verse, was...

(...y'all better sit down for THIS one...)

..."Sailing" by Christopher Cross. I thought that was a hoot. lol

I liked that song - then. I liked the chours effect on his guitar. I'd never really noticed chorus before. lol

I know it's been over a year since the last post.....but just in case anyone cruises into this section.....I'm wondering what the process is for getting the rights to do someone else's material on a release. Any insight?

God Bless...

Basically, you license it through these guys. It's actually not terribly expensive.

I was just listening to Shadowlands on Sunday afternoon for the first time in a few months, TIS has been getting all of the playtime as of late, and I just want to chime in on what a fantastic record it is. So Close, So Far migh be my favorite track on the record, I especially love Susie's vocal on this. Longer is fantastic too. An imrovement on the original IMHO.

ooops!

I thought I had them straight by now! Flo is marvelous on that song. There is just something beautiful and perfect about her voice at the moment it comes in.

The drive from Nashville to Chattanooga can be occupied by listening to Shadowlands (in it's entirity), 2.5 times.
