Great Three Cheers Article - Sam Karnick
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
The incomparable Karnick nails it perfectly. After many listens, his review describes my impression of the album better than I could.
When I got 3 Cheers for the Brokenhearted, I only had a chance for a quick listen before I had to do some extensive traveling. I was a little disappointed, based on this impression, although I enjoyed a few of the songs immediately.
When I finally had the chance to really get into the album, it really grew on me. I find myself listening to the entire album on a regular basis, and I can't put it down. It's as good as Goode Company chopped brisket on jalapeno bread.
Karnick's reference to the amazing freedom of the early FM days in the late 60s, and the psychedelia of much of that music, is right on the mark.
Once again, guys, a superb album. Now I just have to wait for my next fix of Glass Hammer music...

Excellent review, informative without being long-winded and the guy nails the main feel of the album (for me at least!). It must be nice to be able to elucidate on your viewpoints in a written form - I'm more of a conversationalist (i.e. gasbag!) - so I do like well-written pieces like this.
And he used quotidien - that's cerebral, man!

If you ever happen to find yourself in Houston, Texas, the barbecue is on me...

Thanks for the kind invite, my friend and if ever you're in Ireland the standing in a muddy field around a damp fire which is miserably heating two unappetising hot dogs is on me...
...maybe I need to work on my sales pitch?

Did I mention Guinness, though!

Hot dogs and a pint of Stout is good enough for me!SuperTed wrote:Thanks for the kind invite, my friend and if ever you're in Ireland the standing in a muddy field around a damp fire which is miserably heating two unappetising hot dogs is on me...

Luke 6:27-31
27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

This review hits it right on the head, in every way. Wow, impressive.
I love it when reviewers put a lot of thought in their reviews, and truly learn the music they are reviewing. It is a breath of fresh air. Hail to GH. You guys truly have many many people out there that like and respect what you, and to the degree that you do it in.
