Steve Babb is the Tolkien of Music!!!!
I've always loved Glass Hammer, but from the moment I heard about Lex Rex I knew this was going to be something spectacular and beyond all I ever imagined... Lex Rex is incredible. Wow. Now keep in mind that I'm such a big Tolkien fan I've seen FotR ten times in theaters, TTT four (and counting) and have memorized all the elvish lines from FotR and already a dialogue from TTT! I've read the Silmarillion twice, I've read Unfinished Tales, Lost Tales, and am about to read the Lays of Beleriand. I obviously am a Tolkien Freak. a HHUUUGGGGEEEEE Tolkien freak! Biggest one I know.
Now, once again, I will make my bold but proud claim...
STEVE BABB IS THE TOLKIEN OF MUSIC!!!!!!!!
I honestly don't know if I could come up with a higher compliment!
Long live Glass Hammer!
Cuio annan Heled Dring!

Elven Kings are NOT politically correct
And I'm not saying that just because I like Tolkien and I like Glass Hammer and so I'm using the word "Tolkien" to explain how much I love Glass Hammer. (Quite honestly, I like Tolkien a LOOOTTTTTT better than GH)
When I say Steve is the Tolkien of music, it is because I see a parallel in their philosophies somehow: Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest truly Catholic stories of all time even though Tolkien didn't write about Mass and the Pope and specific doctrines. Tolkien's story reflects the deep universal truth of humanity and hope nevertheless. In the same sort of way, Lex Rex is a wonderful album giving glory to God and reflecting the truth of humanity, without having the lyrics all be repeating "Glory to God in the highest! Hallelujah!" (GOD FORBID! REVIVAL MUSIC! ACK!). That's why Steve is the Tolkien of music. Or at least that's my best attempt at sorting all the muddled thoughts in my head.

Fingolfin beheld the ruin of the Noldor. Filled with wrath and despair he rode forth alone. A madness of rage was upon him; his eyes shone like the eyes of the Valar.
He came alone to Angband and challenged Morgoth to single combat.
And Morgoth came.
He came alone to Angband and challenged Morgoth to single combat.
And Morgoth came.

I first got Lex Rex about a year ago, and have always enjoyed it. But last night I listened to it with headphones and lyrics in hand-and was totally blown away. It's like it finally totally all made sense. I've listened to it numerous times, watched the DVD 15 or 20 times, but the whole story and mood/character of the music finally all came together for me. I think it is steve;s best story ever! It is such a poignant and powerful story-the perfect marriage of Truth and Myth!!! And the music rocks too!!!!The mix is perfect. I love Fred's keyboards-but I do seem to enjoy a more even mix of keyboards and guitars and this seems to have the best of all of the GH albums!!!! Kudos guys-LR is now my official no.1 GH disc!!!
