group influences

Post by DruidsGlass » Fri Jun 18, 2004 10:31 pm

oi, as i listen to my limited GH selection (going home tomorrow to my newly ordered stuff!!! yay!!!) i hear passages and im like yea, that's ELP like...that's kind of Kansas...Yes...etc. i have seen your individual influences, but as a group, are there a few bands who you collectively immitate?

and to Fred: who are your favorite keyboard players? i personally prefer Wakeman and Emerson, what about you?

Fred, Walter, Matt and I all four love Rush. I'm not sure we imitate them ever, but occasionaly I hear bits that remind me of Rush. But that may be the only group we all four have in common. Of course, Fred, Walter and I all love Yes and ELP. Matt is kinda new to the Yes stuff, but he is coming along. He's a big Dream Theater fan.

Not to be shamelessly plugging, but Fred and Steve and Matt and everyone gave me nice long lists for musical influences on my website: http://www.ghfan.net/gh/bios.html
Just in case you want more.

i know, i've looked at it, but i was asking a general question with reguard to whether or not GH tries to immitate one group or another from the group perspective (probably didn't make ANY sense, but i know what i mean, lol)

btw: what are your favorite Yes albums? i prefer Tales From Topographic Oceans (Reavealing!!!! woooot!!!), Gates of Delirium, and Going For the One.

I don't know if you are just asking the band, or in general... But, I like to hear myself talk (type?). So, my favorites are Relayer, Drama, and Fragile...

P.S. Gates of Delerium ROCKS!!!
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?

2. Awaken
3. Gates of Delerium.
Definitely up there. :):)
