Wow! Coolest sound from a Theremin yet... half voice, half blues harmonica! :D I gotta get one...

I've been 'using' an Etherwave Pro for around 18 months. I wasn't prepared to pay the astronomical RRP but luckily Turnkey (high profile British distributer) were selling them half price in a sale (it still cost me around £500!).

If I was being honest I would say that the extra features (over the standard Theremin) are not worth the extra ~$800.
Esentially you have a waveform rounder and a crude filter without envelope or resonance. It has got a more linear response than the standard model. You could just as easily pass the ouput signal of the standard model through a filter. Lovely case though and quicker to assemble (than standard). It also has an 'off line' switch which is really useful for retuning etc.

I say 'using' because (like anyone who has tried out a theremin) I still have to master my technique. So no live dates with this one - had lots of 'living room fun' though.

A much more important purchase IMHO is the biography of Leon Theremin ('Theremin Ether Music and Espionage' by Albert Glinsky, University of Illinois Press ISBN 0-252-02582-2) which is the single most inspiring music biog I've ever read. All synh musos should have this one.
