Happy Birthday, Tolkien!

Post by Fingolfin » Fri Jan 03, 2003 1:48 pm

To think... Just 111 years ago one of the world's greatest geniuses was born in South Africa on this date.

Happy elventy-first, Tolkien!
Fingolfin beheld the ruin of the Noldor. Filled with wrath and despair he rode forth alone. A madness of rage was upon him; his eyes shone like the eyes of the Valar.
He came alone to Angband and challenged Morgoth to single combat.

And Morgoth came.

Tolkien and I actually share the same birthday. I discovered this years ago while reading the biography by Humphrey Carpenter.

A very merry unbirthday today!
