Past Watchful Dragons Conference

Post by Peter the High King » Tue May 31, 2005 12:51 am

Hi everyone.

I know that my participation here has been quite spotty. I can only plead guilty with the usual excuses.

That said, I have had a paper accepted for the Past Watchful Dragons conference in November. (I am a philosophy prof.) It's working title is "Further Thoughts on C.S. Lewis's "Abolition of Man."

I am assuming that many of you will attend the conference, because of your love both for C.S. Lewis and Glass Hammer. I hope that you can attend my paper, and that we can meet and socialize. Are there any good bars in Nashville? I must admit to being fond of good beer and good conversation.

Matt could give us a report on the beer, but I'm guessing there are many, many bars in Nashville - some without strippers (possibly).

Very good! I have a friend here who teaches a medieval philosophy course and is a Lewis fan, so I encouraged him to submit as well but since he's on sabbatical I don't know if he had opportunity.

I for one would be happy to hear your ideas about the Abolition of Man in November; I'll need to brush up, it's been awhile. I was probably a college student when I read it, now that I'm on the other end of the educational pipeline I'm likely to see his argument in a whole new light.

Strippers?

Post by Peter the High King » Tue May 31, 2005 5:50 pm

I love women, but I can't stand strip bars. Hard to believe that a room full of naked women could be boring, but that is exactly what strip bars are. Boring.

Good beer, on the other hand, is not boring. Good beer and good conversation is the antithesis of boring.

Sam and the Under 21s

Post by Peter the High King » Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:54 am

Sam, there must be places where we can all go. From my wide experience imbibing, I have found that there are usually places that are both restaurants and bars, where the under 21 are more than welcome. Let's not allow that to prevent us from socializing.

Best,

After the Show?

Post by Peter the High King » Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:57 am

Mayor,

More ale AFTER the show? What kind of rock star are you? You're supposed to swig from a bottle of Jack Daniels on stage and then throw it at the audience, when it's empty.

The first time I ever dropped a Hammond organ on its back and couldn't pick it up again in the middle of a show I eased up on that a bit (looooong time ago people) :D :D

Yes, we do that at each show - but its really only tea.

I love the way this thread has been sucked into a boozed-up funnel! Are you sure you're all not Irish?
