Wait a second, Sam. The sales rank goes down when the album is selling better. You've got it all backwards, silly.Sam Gamgee wrote:Sales rank is now past the number of posts on the forum, which means that not only is the forum growing, but also Shdaowlands is gaining in popularity! Hurray! Or Alayambo, as the elves say!
Selling like hotcakes...

No I haven't.
Ok, you're taking calculus, right?
(Number of posts on forum) ----> (infinity)
(sales rank) ----> 0
So the forum post count is like some sort of positive, increasing function, and then the sales rank is some sort of negative, decreasing function. The line of intersection of the two functions has been crossed.
(So did the geek language help?

Oh, so by past, you mean "has become lower than." Interesting definition. So, ideally, ds/dx is less than 0 will always be true and, ignoring any tomfoolery with the post count, dp/dx is greater than 0 must be true (when s(x) is the sales rank at time x and p(x) is the post count at time x).
s'(x)----------------------- {fluctuation}--
p'(x)-------+------------- + ---------------+
[----------then----------time z----------future----------]
s(x)--------* ------------ a --------------- 1
p(x))------- 0 ----------- a ------------ infinity
*=lower bound of amazon.com's sales rank algorithm/function
Who said anything about January 14?

Who uses "s" and "p"? ds/dx?? What are you doing, differential equations or something? *mutter mutter* (Dude, you're so cool. You actually knew what I was talking about!!)
Well... OK, so it's not necessarily decreasing constantly... But that's because the mathematic transcends the primary reality we live in. We are stuck with the imperfect, messy scientific, where things don't work as nicely as we'd like them to.

Hey Theremin, shall we tell him about transfinite numbers?

(just the thought of how much fun I would have bringing up transfinite numbers is a sad testimony in itself...

Well, no wonder you hate math, if you only got as far as algebra! I don't like that much either. I go for the big abstract concepts, like transfinite numbers - fascinating. It's awesome. It sounds really hard - it's not, really. Just so long as you can set aside your intuitions long enough to listen to the voice of reason. Actually, our teacher showed us this really cool analogy for the Trinity using a transfinite number - it was so cool! (just so you have a vague idea of what i'm talking about, transfinite numbers are something like different sized infinities) Yeah, but aside from the big concepts, I'm really not that great at math.

Those rock!!! Did you know that 0^∞=2. Wait a second, maybe it is 27Φ/5. on second thought, I don't have the slightest idea what it happens to be right now, that's why it rocks!

My teacher did the same thing, hesitantly, or at least used it as an example. He made sure to present it right though, you know all the religious crap people have been throwing around these days... I heard that some college philosophy teacher got in a lot of trouble for supposedly promoting a catholic viewpoint on a subject during a class debate. If I were a college philosophy teacher, I would not want to have to guard myself from presenting an opinion in class! What is the world coming to?Actually, our teacher showed us this really cool analogy for the Trinity using a transfinite number - it was so cool!
