English Essay

Post by Japes » Sun Sep 18, 2011 5:47 pm

So for my "Rhetoric and Comp Class" (Freshman English) I am working on an essay that profiles a group that I belong to. The prompt is very broad, meaning the group can mean anything, as long as I belong to it, and I'm supposed to do all my own research (read: interviews and conclusions).

Anywho, I was hoping to either choose Glass Hammer fans or Progressive Rock fans as my category, and was wondering if anyone here would be willing to fill out some sort of question sheet (if I made one) or conduct some sort of IM interview (with Facebook, Skype, MSN, whatever...). Please let me know. If enough people are willing to (at least one person) then I'll go ahead and start coming up with some questions.

If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

I'd help, if you need it. Sounds like an interesting project.

Well, I decided that I'm going to focus on "Glass Hammer Fans (Hammerheads)" as my group. I'll start putting together a survey. Anyone other than Sam willing to participate? The more the merrier! Actually, the more people I get the more accurate my profile will be (also, the more interesting it will be!).

Here's the questionnaire for my essay! Just copy and paste this list of questions, insert your answers, and email it to me at jpw230 AT psu.edu.

Glass Hammer Questionnaire:
Note: All of these questions are OPTIONAL. Don't answer any you aren't comfortable answering. Thanks for participating!

Would you be willing to allow your name to be used in my essay? If so, what name would you like displayed? (ie: Robert Smith, Robert S., Bob, or a pseudonym)

What is your age? (If you are uncomfortable answering, just give a range, like 20-30, 30-40, etc.)

In what country (and state, if applicable) do you live? (If you are uncomfortable answering, just give a region)

What is your favorite band other than Glass Hammer? (Give 2 or 3 if you can't narrow it down)

When did you become a Glass Hammer fan?

What about Glass Hammer do you find the most enticing?

Would you consider yourself a nerd? (Feel free to explain in more depth if you wish, like what kind of things you like that would define you as a nerd)

When listening to music, do you mostly listen to progressive rock?

Are you a musician? If so, what do you play?

Do you obtain Glass Hammer music through CDs or online (legally… of course…)?

How many Glass Hammer albums do you own?

Do you have friends or family that are Glass Hammer fans? If so, how many?

How many hours a week do you spend listening to music? How many of them are spent listening to Glass Hammer music?

What is your opinion of current mainstream music (what's played on the radio, "Top 40")?

Where do you stand politically and religiously? (Touchy subject. Don't feel obligated to answer, I'm just curious to see if there happens to be some similarity.)

Any other information you would like to add:

Thanks for participating! I can't wait to get cracking on this essay. It will be very interesting to see what conclusions I can draw about Glass Hammer fans! I'll be sure to post the finished product on the GH Street Team page!
